Travel Without Leaving Home

Travel Without Leaving Home

For the first time in Australian history, our borders are closed and the opportunity to pack our bags and travel beyond our shores seems like it will be limited for the majority of 2020.

We’ve compiled a list of the top must do’s to relieve a little bit of wanderlust while we all sit it out and wait for the time we can all start traveling again…

1: Learn a new language

What better way to feel like we’ve ventured beyond our own backyard than to sit down, slip on those headphones, and practice another language. Babbel and Duolingo are two apps that have a range of languages to choose from.

2: Free photography classes

Nikon are holding free photography classes right now. Brush up on your photography skills and be ready for those amazing travel pics you’ll take when you’re on our Amaco Alaska Conference or Northern Lights Conference.

3: Visit a museum

Grab a cuppa, sit on your couch, and take a virtual tour of some of the world’s grand museums. What about a trip to the Hermitage Museum in St Petersburg, Russia or the Uffizi Gallery in Florence.

4: Pass the time with Livestream Travel Cams

Check-in on National Parks, African wildlife, and a number of popular cities from the comforts of home. We can’t go past the antics of the Giant Pandas in Genda, China.

5: Go on a Virtual Tour to the Natural Wonders of the World

Have itchy feet? Visit one of the natural wonders of the world with Google Earth, they have created virtual experiences to many UNESCO World Heritage Sites around the world.  One of our favourites is the Rose-Red City of Petra in Jordan.

6: Travel the World with your tastebuds

If your culinary skills need a brush up get online with chef Massimo Bottura. The 3 star Michelin chef has been running free online classes from his home. Regarded as one of the best chef’s in Italy he offers recipes you can cook from home in true Italian style.

7: Go on Safari

Go on safari in real-time. Wild Earth is running virtual Sunrise and Sunset Safari’s across Sabi Sands, South Africa. Watch the recorded safari or visit the website for timings and interact with the expert game ranger in real-time.

8: Go on a Virtual Walking Tour

It will never be the same, but for now, it will do. Head onto a virtual walking tour practically anywhere in the world. We visited Cuba today but Living Walks has virtual walking tours spanning the globe.

However you decide to spend your time during lockdown restrictions, there’s plenty of inspiration out there that will have all of us adding new places and experiences in our future travel plans. Until then, stay safe and stay home.
