Our Small Group Tour and Conference to South Africa, Zambia and Botswana in 2026 – Tour ‘Southern African Splendour & Rovos Rail Adventure’ – promises an unparalleled journey through one of the world’s most diverse and captivating countries in the African continent.
This tour seamlessly blends the timeless elegance of the Rovos Rail with the thrill of African landscape discoveries and safari adventures in Chobe National Park Chobe National Park and the lush Tour Okavango Delta, creating a unique and luxurious experience.
With its strategic location at the southern tip of the continent, South Africa has brewed a rich history and timeless allure, and Cape Town truly encompasses its rich beauty. The journey begins in the “Mother City,” with its stunning natural beauty and rich cultural heritage. It is dominated by the iconic Table Mountain, vibrant neighbourhoods like Bo-Kaap, and historical sites such as Robben Island. It’s a city where every corner reveals a new facet, promising a journey of discovery and delight.
You’ll discover Cape Point, the scenic promontory at the southwestern tip of the continent. Journey past the “bikini beaches” at the base of the towering Twelve Apostles Mountain Range, along Hout Bay with its bustling fishing harbour and over the famous Chapman’s Peak Drive. Explore the stunning Cape Peninsula and Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve, home to rare bonteboks and chacma baboons. You’ll ride the “Flying Dutchman” funicular to the great pinnacle at blustery Cape Point, which presides over treacherous reefs and sandy beaches. At Boulders Beach, visit its colony of endangered African penguins; accustomed to humans, they provide endless photo opportunities.
Then, it’s off to wine country with a day exploring the Winelands, encompassing the picturesque towns of Stellenbosch and Franschhoek. This region is a haven for oenophiles and gourmands alike, offering a blend of world-class wines, gourmet cuisine, and breathtaking landscapes.
The adventure continues as you board the Rovos Rail in Cape Town for a luxurious 3-night journey to Pretoria, a voyage that promises opulence and extraordinary landscapes.
Travelling on the Rovos Rail is akin to stepping back into the golden age of luxury train travel, where the journey becomes the destination. Imagine boarding a beautifully restored, wood-panelled train, where every detail exudes elegance and sophistication. As you settle into your plush suite, the world outside begins to unfold in a series of breathtaking vistas, from the rolling vineyards of the Cape Winelands to the dramatic landscapes of the Karoo desert.
Upon arrival in Pretoria, visit the Steve Biko Academic Hospital, which provides real insight into how other colleagues across the world experience medicine.
We’ll pay homage to Dr David Livingstone heading to Livingstone in Zambia. During his explorations, he survived malaria, dysentery, sleeping sickness and several other diseases, even concocting a malaria cure along the way. Livingstone suggested the association between mosquitoes and malaria some 30 years before Ronald Ross established the link. He also observed the connection between relapsing fever and tick bites, as well as the link between the environment and diseases such as pneumonia, typhoid and dysentery.
From here, you’ll explore the thundering Victoria Falls. The local tribespeople call it Mosi-Oa-Tunya – ‘The Smoke That Thunders’. The fine spray of the mighty Victoria Falls may be seen like a cloud across the bushveld, throwing rainbows hundreds of feet in the air.
You’ll relax on the forested banks of the great Zambesi River, upstream of the mighty cataract where it thunders into the Botaka Gorge.
Enjoy the site of zebras and giraffes roaming while overlooking the river and the sunset of a lifetime, with the spray of the Falls in the distance. Every sense will be ignited.
The adventure continues with the option of continuing onto Botswana. The Okavango Delta, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is considered one of the Seven Natural Wonders of Africa – a vast inland delta, its unique ecosystem is formed where the Okavango River spills into the Kalahari Desert, creating a lush, waterlogged paradise that supports an incredible diversity of wildlife.
After exploring the wildlife-rich Okavango Delta, continue to Chobe National Park, renowned for its vast herds of elephants and an array of other wildlife. You’ll experience game viewing offered by 4WD vehicle, boat and sometimes on foot.
