Tour Summary

We invite you to join us on a journey to a country that defies categorisation on our Landscapes of Colombia Small Group Tour & Conference. Rich in culture, history and natural beauty – it the most biodiverse country on the planet (second only to Brazil).

It is a country emerging confidently into the spotlight, shedding decades of conflict to reveal a treasure trove of art, architecture, music and mouth watering cuisine.  At its heart lies a deep-rooted hospitality and a joy for life that is as infectious as the rhythms of cumbia and vallenato that pulse through its streets.

Independent since 1810 and forged through a passionate struggle for identity, Colombia’s story is one of resilience and reinvention. Spanish colonial legacies sit beside Indigenous traditions and Afro-Caribbean influences, while cutting-edge urban renewal projects reimagine cities like Bogotá and Medellín as beacons of innovation.

Our specially curated itinerary brings you to the very soul of Colombia. Our itinerary begins in Bogotá, Colombia’s vibrant, high-altitude capital nestled against the Eastern Andes at over 2,600 metres above sea level. Far more than just a gateway city, Bogotá is a cultural epicentre – a place where Colombia’s many identities converge. During our stay, we’ll explore the historic Candelaria district, where colonial mansions, centuries old churches, and street art filled alleyways form a patchwork of the city’s past and present.

The Gold Museum, or Museo del Oro, offers a profound insight into the pre-Hispanic cultures that once flourished here, showcasing more than 55,000 gold artefacts in what is arguably the finest collection of its kind in the world. We’ll rise above the city on a cable car to the mountaintop sanctuary of Monserrate, taking in sweeping views of Bogotá’s sprawling urban canvas before descending to enjoy a welcome dinner that reflects the country’s renewed culinary pride – blending traditional Andean ingredients with modern techniques.

Leaving the capital, we journey north by road to the exquisite colonial town of Villa de Leyva, set in a tranquil Andean valley where time seems suspended. Here, amidst cobblestone streets and whitewashed architecture, we soak up the gentle rhythm of village life.

We then fly west into the fertile highlands of the Coffee Triangle, the beating heart of Colombia’s agricultural heritage. Here, in lush green valleys sculpted by generations of coffee growers, we immerse ourselves in the art and science of coffee production. A visit to a traditional coffee finca allows us to trace the journey of the humble bean from seedling to steaming cup, engaging with the growers whose intimate knowledge of the land has earned Colombian coffee its global reputation. Day excursions take us to the picturesque towns of  Salento and Finlandia, where brightly coloured balconies, artisan workshops, and scenic viewpoints provide a vivid taste of rural life. We also walk amongst the surreal beauty of the Cocora Valley, home to the towering wax palms – Colombia’s national tree – which rise like natural obelisks through the misty Andes.

Our next destination is Medellín, once infamous for its turbulent past, today it’s celebrated as a beacon of urban innovation and civic pride.

Medellín also offers a powerful story of transformation. We’ll explore the revitalised district of Communa 13, now a living mural of street art and resilience, guided by locals who’ve helped shape the city’s rebirth. Riding the Metrocable above the city’s hillside barrios, we see first hand how urban design has helped foster equity and connection.

At the Plaza Botero, we encounter the whimsical yet politically charged sculptures of Fernando Botero, whose work offers another lens into the Colombian experience.

We’ll then head to Antioquia and the flower growing village of Santa Elena in the mountains above Medellin.  We have the privilege of visiting a silletero’s farm. The silletero’s are emblematic cultural figures believed to have descended from Basque settlers who arrived in Antioquia during the Spanish colonial period.  They are known as flower growers and we learn how they create stunning floral designs painstakingly assembled by hand for the Feria de las Flores (Flower Festival) every year.

We then continue to Guatapé, a lakeside town famous for its vividly painted zócalos and the nearby El Peñol, a dramatic monolith which offers panoramic views of a surreal, island-dotted reservoir. The climb up its 740 steps is rewarded with one of the most breathtaking vistas in the country.

From the mountains, we head north to the Caribbean coast and the jewel of Colombia’s colonial heritage – Cartagena de Indias With its ochre-hued walls, flower-draped balconies, and history steeped in conquest and resistance, Cartagena seduces from the first moment. We’ll explore the old walled city, wandering cobbled streets that once echoed with the footsteps of conquistadors, revolutionaries, and poets. Cartagena is also a place of romance – a city that comes alive as the sun dips below the sea, lanterns glow, and music drifts from open windows and plazas.

A short one boat ride off the sun drenched Caribbean peninsula lie the Rosario Islands, the perfect place to experience mangrove lagoons, hidden beaches, and coral reefs.

Our farewell dinner will be celebrated back within the storied walls of Cartagena’s Old Town, where the streets echo with the rhythmic pulse of Afro Caribbean drums.

For this who with a little bit more time we invite you to extend your journey with a 8 day river cruise  into Colombia’s heartland travelling north to the Magdalena River. This storied river once plied by conquistadors, missionaries, merchants, and rebels winds through the pulse of Colombia’s interior, offering a tapestry of sights and sounds rarely encountered on the well-trodden paths of the Andes or the Caribbean coast.

Onboard the AmaMagdalena, the experience unfolds not merely as travel, but as a drifting theatre of the senses. The journey begins in Barranquilla, a vibrant port city at the mouth of the Magdalena River. A stop in Nueva Venecia (New Venice), with it stilted homes that rise mirage-like above the water, a floating village where fishermen cast nets in the shadow of colonial time.

You’ll spend days exploring and evenings relaxing as you glide to the next destination. In Mompox, tread cobbled lanes once lined with treasure hidden from pirates, where baroque churches brood under the gaze of the Sierra. There, filigree goldwork gleams like relics of a forgotten empire, and jazz wafts through moonlit courtyards.

Further upriver, in El Banco, cumbia’s birthplace calls with its polyrhythms born of bondage and joy, while in Mangague  on the lower reaches of the Magdalena River head out in search of the ‘Horned Screamer’ and ‘Limpkin’, both residents of the labyrinth of wetlands and wildlife rich floodplains of the area.

To follow the Magdalena River is to trod off the beaten path and trace the spiritual spine of Colombia, to unearth forgotten epics, and to encounter a country still in the act of telling its own remarkable story. The journey ends back in Cartagena completing an experience that encapsulates Colombia’s colonial past and it syncretic cultures.

Day 2 - 9 August 2026Bogotá Discoveries & Conference

Today, we explore the cultural heart of Colombia’s vibrant capital, Bogotá. We begin with an ascent to Cerro de Monserrate, the iconic mountain that watches over the city from 3152 meters. Visit the 17th century Monserrate Sanctuary, a pilgrimage site for this devout and take in the panoramic views that stretch across the sprawling Andean plateau—an ideal introduction to Bogotá’s vast scale and varied geography.

Continue to the historic district of La Candelaria, a neighbourhood where colonial mansions, baroque churches, and cobbled streets echo with centuries of history. Our guide will unpack the stories of revolutionary heroes, literary figures, and the complex layering of pre-Hispanic, Spanish, and modern-day influences that define this atmospheric quarter.

We also visit to one of Bogotá’s most treasured institutions—the Museo del Oro (Gold Museum). Home to more than 50,000 pieces of gold and pre-Columbian artifacts, this world-renowned collection offers a mesmerizing insight into the artistry, cosmology, and metallurgy of Colombia’s ancient cultures. From the famed Muisca raft to intricate Quimbaya ornaments, each piece offers a glittering glimpse into the past.

We return to the hotel after lunch for Conference Sessions in the afternoon followed by dinner.

Overnight: Four Seasons Casa Medina

Day 3 - 10 August2026Colonial Towns & Heritage - Villa de Leyva

Today we leave behind the high-altitude buzz of Bogotá and journey north toward one of Colombia’s most beautifully preserved colonial towns—Villa de Leyva.

Our first stop on the journey is the Salt Cathedral of Zipaquirá, located about 50 kilometres north of the capital. Built deep within the tunnels of a working salt mine, this underground cathedral is one of Colombia’s most iconic landmarks.

We continue our drive north into Boyacá department, with the landscape gradually changes- rolling green hills, potato fields, and red-tiled farmsteads dot the countryside.

We arrive in Villa de Leyva by late afternoon. This national heritage town, frozen in time with its whitewashed walls, cobbled streets, and grand Plaza Mayor, offers a peaceful contrast to Bogotá. You’ll have time to settle in and enjoy the relaxed pace of this enchanting colonial gem.

Dinner this evening is a short stroll to a local gem .

Overnight: Casa Alcestre

Included Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 4 - 11 August 2026Charms of Colombia's Colonial Past - Ráquira & Villa de Leyva

This morning, we delve deeper into the cultural heartland of Boyacá with a visit to Ráquira, the “Ceramic Capital of Colombia,”. We begin with a hands-on pottery workshop, where a family of local potters, many of whom have inherited their craft through generations, will guide us through the traditional methods of shaping, carving, and firing clay. Whether you mould a simple bowl or a decorative keepsake, the experience offers a tactile connection to a centuries-old tradition deeply embedded in the land and its people.

You’ll discover the town’s small plaza, its charming chapel, and the open-air sculptures that pay tribute to local craftsmanship and rural life.

Return to Villa de Leyva in the early afternoon to wander, relax, and absorb the atmosphere of this extraordinary place. Declared a national monument in 1954, Villa de Leyva remains remarkably untouched by time. Its Plaza Mayor, one of the largest cobblestone squares in South America is the town’s soul. The town is filled with narrow lanes lead to hidden courtyards, boutique galleries, and museums housed in former convents and stately homes.

Dinner this evening is at a local restaurant.

Overnight: Casa Alcestre

Included Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 5 - 12 August 2026Colombia's Coffee Triangle

After breakfast, we set out for the return drive to Bogotá and board a flight westward to Pereira, one of the principal gateways into Colombia’s fabled Eje Cafetero – the Coffee Triangle. The landscape here is all mountains cloaked in coffee plantations, bamboo groves, and banana trees. This is a region where altitude, volcanic soil, and a unique microclimate converge to produce some of the world’s finest Arabica beans, and where the pace of life shifts to the rhythm of the harvest.

Our home here is Casa San Carlos Lodge, a tranquil boutique retreat tucked amid verdant hills just outside the town of Santa Rosa de Cabal. The country estate offers a refined introduction to the Colombian coffee landscape.

Dinner this evening is at the lodge.

Overnight: Casa San Carlos Lodge

Included Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 6 - 13 August 2026Conference & Mountain Thermal Springs

Conference Sessions take place this morning.

After lunch we set off on a short scenic drive to Termales de Santa Rosa de Cabal. Tucked deep in the mountain valley, this natural hot spring complex is famed for not only its mineral rich waters but for its setting – a cascade of thermal waterfalls plunging down from the forest above.

Here, you’ll have the afternoon to unwind and soak in the steaming pools, whose temperatures range between 37–40°C, fed directly from subterranean volcanic springs. Locals have long believed in the healing properties of these waters, rich in minerals like calcium, magnesium, and sulfur.

Dinner this evening is at the lodge. Return back to the lodge later afternoon.

Overnight: Casa San Carlos Lodge

Included Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 7 - 14 August 2026Valle de Corcora & Colonial Coffee Towns

After breakfast we depart for the Valle de Cocora, a jewel of the Andean cloud forest that lies within Los Nevados National Natural Park. Our mode of transport is the iconic Willy Jeep – a rugged 4×4 originally brought to Colombia in the 1940s to serve as all-terrain transport for coffee growers. Still used today in many rural areas, these colourful jeeps are as much a cultural symbol as they are a practical way to traverse the region’s winding mountain roads.

The Cocora Valley stands as place of extraordinary natural beauty and a sacred landscape for the local Quindío people. Here, wax palms – the tallest palm trees in the world soar up to 60 metres high.
You’ll have time for a gentle walk or short guided hike, depending on your pace and interest. Along the way, learn about the endemic flora and fauna, the symbolic importance of the wax palm (Colombia’s national tree), and the environmental efforts to protect this fragile ecosystem.

After enjoying a local lunch we head to Salento, the region’s most beloved town, perched on a ridge above the Quindío River Valley. Enjoy a walking tour through Salento’s colourful streets. The town blends bohemian charm with coffee culture and is a photographer’s dream.

We then continue to Filandia, a lesser known but equally enchanting town that many locals consider the more authentic of the two. With its preserved colonial architecture, quieter pace, and vibrant artisan community, Filandia offers a more intimate glimpse into regional life. Stroll the streets or stop for a coffee at one of the stylish cafés set inside 19th-century buildings.

Return to the Lodge late afternoon. Dinner will be served at the lodge.

Overnight: Casa San Carlos Lodge

Included Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 8 - 15 August 2026Coffee Trails and off to Medellín

After breakfast at the lodge, we pack our bags and head off for one final, unforgettable immersion in the landscape that has defined the past few days. We travel to a working coffee farm nestled in the verdant hills outside of Pereira or Salento—an estate where coffee is not just cultivated, but celebrated as an expression of land, labour, and legacy. Known for its sustainable practices, warm hospitality, and deeply rooted traditions, this finca offers an extensive, immersive coffee tour that goes far beyond the basics. The visit begins with a walk through the plantation between rows of coffee trees, pausing for the guide to explain the different varietals, the impact of elevation and shade, and the slow rhythms of the harvest. Back at the processing area, we follow the “bean-to-cup” journey through every stage: de-pulping, fermenting, washing, drying, roasting.

You’ll enjoy lunch at the finca before heading to the airport for a short domestic flight to Medellín, Colombia’s second largest city and one of its most compelling transformations.  Your stay here is in the leafy neighbourhood of El Poblado, where contemporary comfort blends with Colombian style.

You’ll have some time to unwind before stepping out into Medellín’s buzzing gastronomic scene for dinner this evening.

Overnight: The Charlee Hotel

Included Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 9 - 16 August 2026Medellín - A City of Transformation

Once associated with violence and volatility, Medellín has reinvented itself as a centre of innovation, art, and green urban planning. Set in a bowl shaped valley and surrounded by steep, verdant mountains, the city greets you with unexpected warmth and energy. Prepare for a full day that encapsulates the extraordinary transformation.

Once the most dangerous neighbourhood in Colombia, Comuna 13 was the epicentre of narco violence and guerrilla conflict throughout the 1980s and ’90s. Under the shadow of Pablo Escobar’s infamous reign, this district bore the brunt of state raids, gang warfare, and forced displacement. But in the last two decades, it has become a global case study in how public art, transport infrastructure, and community-led initiatives can reweave the fabric of society.

Led by a local guide – a resident, artist or activist – we’ll explore Communa 13’s kaleidoscope of murals and mosaics which narrate storis of suffering, resistance and triumph. Open air escalators and community gardens have now replaced fear with mobility and dignity.

We then head to a green oasis in the heart of the city – the Jardín Botánico de Medellín for lunch before we visit the historic heart of downtown Medellín. Visit Plaza Botero, where Fernando Botero,  Medellín’s most iconic artists bronze sculptures of voluptuous women, men and animals stand as an outdoor gallery for all.

Return to the hotel late afternoon before heading out to another of the city’s iconic restaurants for another evening of gastronomy.

Overnight: Charlee Hotel

Included Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 10 - 17 August 2026Antioquia - Flower Landscapes & Guatapé Zócalos

Today, we leave the urban energy of Medellín behind and travel into the verdant countryside of Antioquia. We head east of the Aburrá Valley, cutting through pine covered mountains and misty hillsides. Flower farms, dairy fincas, and scattered hamlets dot the rolling landscape.

Our first visit is a a traditional Silletero farm, located in the floral haven of Santa Elena, a village perched high above Medellín where the air is crisp and the soil fertile.

The silleteros are the proud bearers of one of Colombia’s most cherished cultural traditions. These flower farmers are known for creating the iconic “silletas”—intricately arranged floral displays carried on their backs during Medellín’s world-famous Feria de las Flores (Flower Festival). This tradition dates back more than a century, originating when farmers would trek from Santa Elena to Medellín on foot, silletas of blooms strapped to their backs, to sell their wares in the city.

From Santa Elena, we continue eastward through dramatic Andean terrain toward Guatapé. Before reaching the town proper you’ll see El Peñol come into view, a colossal granite monolith that towers over the Guatapé reservoir. This 200 metre high rock was once worshipped by the indigenous Tahamí people .

On the shores of the Embalse de Guatapé, a vast man-made reservoir created in the 1970s when the region was flooded to power a hydroelectric plant we board a private lake cruise.  The lake is a recreational paradise, its islands and peninsulas forming a surreal patchwork best explored by boat.

You’ll drift past forested shores, secluded villas, and even the ruins of one of Pablo Escobar’s former mansions, now claimed by nature.

On arrival in Guatapé enjoy a walking tour through its cobbled streets with artisan markets, flower-filled balconies. This is a town where every wall tells a story. Its signature murals called zócalos adorn the lower half of nearly every building, painted in bold colours and rich detail. These bas-relief panels depict scenes from daily life, folklore, animals, and farming traditions, turning the town into an open-air gallery of Antioquian culture.

We’ll arrive at our hotel late afternoon nestled between the town and the lakeshore. Dinner this evening is at the hotel.

Overnight: The Brown Hotel

Included Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 11 - 18 August 2026Cartagena - Caribbean Vibes

This morning, we bid farewell to the cool, green highlands of Antioquia and take a short flight to Colombia’s northern coast – landing in Cartagena, a city steeped in history, resilience, and the rhythmic heartbeat of the Caribbean.

You’ll be welcomed by a warm sea breeze, cobblestone streets, colonial-era balconies overflowing with bougainvillea, and the echoes of street musicians in the streets. Founded in 1533, Cartagena was once the jewel of Spain’s colonial empire and the fortress walls that once defended its riches now enclose a city of vivid colour, layered histories, and Afro-Caribbean pride.

In the nearby fishing village of La Boquilla, perched where the city meets the sea, is where Cartagena’s African roots are most powerfully felt. Settled by descendants of escaped enslaved people, La Boquilla is a proud Afro-Colombian community where oral tradition, rhythm, and storytelling remain vital tools of identity.

Here, we participate in a traditional drum workshop, led by local musicians who share their craft with heart and soul. Learn the basic beats of the tambora, alegre, and llamador drums – it’s a joyful, grounding experience.

From the village, we glide gently into the mangrove forests by canoe, guided by local fishermen whose knowledge of these waterways runs as deep as the roots of the trees. The experience is serene and intimate. Crabs scuttle along tangled branches, herons watch from the shallows, and the mangrove tunnels close in like vaulted arches of a natural cathedral.

You’ll return back to the historical walls of Cartagena’s old town before heading out to dine at one of the city’s most beloved restaurants – a place where Caribbean flavours meet theatrical flair.

Housed in a beautiful colonial building with arched doorways and candlelit ambience, ‘Cande’ serves refined coastal cuisine.

When the sun sets in Cartagena, the city doesn’t sleep. The streets within the Ciudad Amurallada (Walled City) pulse with music, laughter, and golden lamplight. Horse-drawn carriages clatter over cobblestones, street performers spin fire or strum guitars beneath colonial arches, and the aroma of grilled arepas and rum-laced cocktails drifts on the breeze. With our hotel only steps away you can immerse yourself in the absorb the atmosphere and all its charm.

Overnight: Casa San Agustín

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 12 -19 August 2026Into the Caribbean Life - Rosario Islands

This morning, the city awaits with all its sun-drenched splendour and colonial grace. After breakfast, we embark on a journey not just through the streets of Cartagena—but through its soul, riding in classic vintage cars, an ode to a time when the city was a pearl in the Spanish Empire’s crown.

You’ll pass highlights such as the Plaza de la Aduana, the Inquisition Palace, and the convent of La Popa, perched on the city’s highest point with sweeping views of the bay.

The guide will narrate tales of viceroys and revolutionaries, poets and pirates, bringing to life the colour and complexity of this city that has endured war, weather, and time.

After lunch we’ll board a private catamaran and sail southwest along the peninsula through the turquoise waters of the Rosario Islands.

We’ll disembark at Islas Barú for a taste of Caribbean for the next two nights.  A much slower rhythm than Cartagena, once accessible only by boat, this once sleepy peninsula has managed to retain an atmosphere of quiet exclusivity. Your accommodation offers seclusion, serenity, and a sense of barefoot luxury.

There’s time to unwind, take a dip, sip on a fresh coconut by the beach, or simply lie in a hammock as the salt air melts the last echoes of the city.

We’ll set out once more as the sun sets to the bioluminescent lagoon near Barú, a natural phenomenon where a special type of microscopic plankton called dinoflagellates in the water emit a blue-green glow when disturbed. You may even take a brief swim, a truly unforgettable sensation.

We return back to the island and enjoy dinner in an open air pavilion Caribbean style.

Overnight: Las Islas Barú

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 13 - Thursday 20 August 2026Conference & The Island Life

Conference Sessions take place this morning.

We’ll follow with lunch on the beach. The rest of the afternoon is at leisure to enjoy the facilities of this luxury hotel, enjoy the spa facilities, bike ride around the island paths, enjoy a swim or simply sit back and relax.

Dinner this evening is at the hotel.

Overnight: Las Islas Barú

Included Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 14 - 21 August 2026Back to Cartagena's Colour & Rhythm

After a final leisurely breakfast and perhaps one last swim in the crystalline sea, we board a private boat or transfer back to Cartagena—trading barefoot simplicity for the vibrant, romantic chaos of the city’s historic core.

We’ll enjoy lunch and re check in to one of Cartagena’s most exquisite boutique properties – the Casa San Agustín, an elegant sanctuary hidden within a restored 17th-century mansion.

With its three whitewashed houses fused together around a plant-filled courtyard and freshwater pool, Casa San Agustín feels less like a hotel and more like a private noble residence.

Rooms are tastefully appointed with bespoke Colombian art, antique furnishings, and soft Caribbean light filtering through shuttered windows. It’s a place that whispers elegance rather than shouts it, and a perfect home base to soak in your final hours in Cartagena.

With the afternoon at leisure, you’re free to meander through the narrow, sun-dappled streets. There are many local boutiques, artisan workshops, and streetscapes to explore for one final day.

We gather for one final Farewell Dinner this evening.

Day 4 - 25 August 2026Mompox

A town frozen in time, Mompox embodies the appearance of what many villages looked like during colonial times. Founded in 1540, this remote village became an important Spanish trading post. Some Spaniards found Mompox to be a haven for keeping gold and other treasure protected from the pirates that pillaged coastal cities like Cartagena, and with this precious metal and the work of skilled artisans from Spain came beautifully crafted artifacts. Since then, the town has become famous for its incredible filigree jewelry, which you can learn more about during your tour of this town. While visiting the largest inland island in Latin America, journey through the beautiful wetlands, exploring the massive lake that is home to a variety of flora and fauna native to the region, with opportunities to birdwatch at sunrise, early morning and sunset. In either the morning or the afternoon, you can choose to take a stroll through this storied town on a guided walking tour. With stunning colonial churches, breathtaking nature surrounding the town, and delicious local delights such as capa cheese and butifarra, Mompox is sure to be a highlight of your journey along the magnificent Magdalena River.

Day 5 - 26 August 2026Cruising the La Mojana Region

Bid farewell to Mompox before embarking on a scenic cruise down one of the most breathtaking stretches of the Magdalena River – La Mojana Region – and reaching the town of El Banco, nestled at the intersection of the Magdalena and César rivers. Founded in a location strategic for both
the native people and the Spaniards, the town was repeatedly destroyed in their struggles and then rebuilt atop its ashes. In 1749, a freed black slave named José Domingo Ortiz led a group of settlers to this special location, carrying with him a statue of the Virgin Mary, staking this place as their new home. Because of this connection, the Virgin of Candelaria, a special invocation of the Virgin Mary, is specially venerated in this region. Embark on a guided walking of this incredible destination and learn more about its history as the birthplace of cumbia, an iconic genre of music and dance that has now been popularised around the world. What began as a courtship dance practiced by African slaves later incorporated American steps and European and African instruments has become a worldwide
sensation, which is especially popular in the Andean region of Colombia. In the evening, enjoy an exclusive cumbia performance by locals.

Travel Options & Extensions

Amaco is not only a member of ATIA (the Australian Travel Industry Association) and CATO (Council of Australian Tour Operators), but we are also ATAS Travel Accredited. This means we have met the strictest industry standards for financial, operational, and management criteria. Only the best industry agents achieve this accreditation, meaning you can travel with us knowing that you’re in safe and capable hands.

With nearly 30 years of experience in planning and organising conferences, we understand that participants may wish to add additional travel destinations and adventures before or after the all-inclusive packages we offer.

Other conference operators might discourage you from doing this. Sometimes, it’s because of the added complexity it creates, and at different times, they’ll try to talk you out of it simply because they don’t have capable or experienced staff with the breadth and depth that the advisors we employ have.

We encourage all participants to make the most of the time away. This might mean departing earlier than the rest of the group to visit other destinations or staying on at the conference’s conclusion to undertake some additional travel.

Our travel advisors are perfectly positioned to assist you with making these arrangements. They will do all the hard work for you, seamlessly combining your personalised itinerary with the group program.

CAN I BOOK MY OWN FLIGHTS?

Yes… Not a problem. We understand that people may have a preferred Travel Agency they want to use, and we don’t have any issues with you doing so. We will advise you of suggested arrival and departure times to enable you to utilise our group transfers.

Keep in mind, though, that we do have experienced travel advisors who are ready and waiting to help, even if that means just providing a comparison price – there’s nothing wrong with some healthy competition.

If you book your own flights, we will request a copy of your complete itinerary to verify that it aligns with our program and group itinerary.

One word of warning, however: when booking flights independently, as the non-ticketing Agency, we are not notified of any time changes or cancellations to your booking. If anything changes with your booking, both before and during the journey, it will be up to your agent to contact you and make any necessary changes.

It is also worth noting that, although we will have experienced staff members escorting the group during the conference, as the non-ticketing Agent, we are not authorised to make contact or deal with the airline or other suppliers on your behalf.

CAN I CHOOSE MY OWN CLASS OF TRAVEL?

We used to include flights in our travel package, but found that in many cases, the fares were more expensive than the best available daily fares or were not applicable for those looking to extend their stay before or after the main conference travel dates.

We also felt it was unfair on you, as a participant, to unknowingly pay a premium for a more flexible group fare when you are already committed to attending the conference.

By not including the airfare in the package, you are able to work with one of our experienced and knowledgeable Travel Advisors to arrange flights on any airline and from any destination depending on your preferences…. including the class of travel.

CAN I VISIT OTHER PLACES BEFORE OR AFTER THE CONFERENCE?

In short….. Yes!

You’re encouraged to speak with our experienced travel advisors to learn more about the options available to you, either before or after the conference itineraries. We will gladly work with you to create a personalised itinerary that can include as much or as little as you prefer.

We believe it is essential for your peace of mind to know that our advisors are all directly employed by Amaco Small Group Tours and are based in our office in Notting Hill.

We don’t subcontract the travel to a third party, which means you can be confident knowing that any arrangements you make through Amaco will be integrated with the conference program to create a continuous, seamless travel itinerary. We will put as much care and effort into your extension as we do into planning the conference.

Whether it is simply booking some airport transfers with a couple of nights’ accommodation through to more elaborate arrangements, we are perfectly positioned to incorporate any individual travel plans into your overall conference itinerary.

Email or call us so we can put together your perfect itinerary.

TRAVEL INSURANCE - IS IT REALLY NECESSARY?

Much has been said about the value of travel insurance, especially given the broad-based exclusion policies many underwriters had in place, which protected them from claims resulting from pandemics and epidemics.

A lot has changed in the past few years, and many reputable travel insurance policies available on the market now not only include the usual coverage for luggage and emergency medical expenses but also offer coverage for COVID-19.

All members of the Amaco team are trained and authorised to provide information to clients regarding travel insurance. We regularly attend product updates on various policy options and inclusions, and stand ready to assist you in finding the right policy for your needs.

Please call our office, and we will gladly explain the various scenarios to you in greater depth.

Education

Amaco is an Accredited Education Provider for the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) and the Australian College of Rural & Remote Medicine. Over the years, members of our team have also worked closely with the Australian Dental Association, the Australian Dental Council, the Pharmacy Guild of Australia, the Australian Medical Association, the Pharmaceutical Society of Australia and various other specialist associations and colleges.

Each conference we run includes an education syllabus that assists GP’s, dentists, pharmacists and health professionals to improve the quality of care they provide to patients and customers while at the same time providing them the opportunity to travel to and experience new and exciting destinations.

Our conference will provide delegates with the opportunity to earn CPD hours or points based on the content and duration of sessions. As has been the case with past conferences, we will work closely with participants affiliated with other associations to ensure that they receive maximum recognition for their attendance at the conference.

The content of the education sessions will be relevant to GPs, Medical Specialists, Pharmacists, Dentists, Nurses, and other health providers. We encourage all attendees to register for the conference sessions.

The Education Committee for the Landscapes of Colombia Conference will be selected in early 2026, with final conference topics to be chosen based on feedback from our previous conference attendees and input from the RACGP, ACRRM, ADC, and other relevant stakeholders. Suitable speakers will be approached based on the topics selected.

Subject to final accreditation, the Landscapes of Colombia Conference will between 11 and 12 hours of accredited education.

ACRRM members can also expect the education program to be accredited and to earn CPD points. RACGP and ACRRM accreditation will be applied for under the triennium 2026 to 2028.

As has been the case in the past, Amaco will work with dental and pharmacy bodies and those affiliated with other associations to ensure they receive maximum recognition for attending the conference.

We welcome applications from potential presenters and encourage anyone interested to contact us for further information.
