A journey to Scotland is an immersive plunge into a history, culture, and people that feel both familiar and intriguingly foreign at the same time.
Whether navigating the streets of its major cities or being enchanted by breathtakingly beautiful landscapes, you can’t help but be awed and captivated by the rich Scottish tapestry that surrounds you.
Our “Splendid Scotland” itinerary serves as a captivating introduction to Scotland’s allure, catering both to first-time adventurers and seasoned explorers.
Spanning 14 days, your journey commences in Glasgow, renowned for its warm, welcoming atmosphere and unique blend of history, vibrant culture, and stunning architecture.
It’s fitting that Glasgow is the embarkation point for our cruise, with the city deeply connected to its historic shipbuilding industry. Strategically located along the River Clyde, Glasgow was a hub for maritime activities and offers easy access to Scotland’s stunning coastal waters and nearby islands.
Your cruise on Ponant’s luxurious Le Laperouse begins as you sail to Fort William, a harbour town on Loch Linnhe’s shores. Steeped in Scottish history and tradition and close to the spectacular scenery of Glencoe, Fort William is nestled at the foot of Ben Nevis, the UK’s highest peak. The town’s friendly atmosphere, local culture, and stunning natural surroundings make it an essential destination for those seeking an authentic Scottish experience.
The next cruise stop is Portree, the largest town on the Isle of Skye. Visitors love its picturesque harbour, colourful buildings, and friendly atmosphere. Those who venture further on one of the included shore excursions will experience dramatic landscapes, including the iconic Old Man of Storr, the breathtaking Quiraing, and the ancient Dunvegan Castle.
Do not hesitate to give us a call. One of our expert team is available and would be happy to answer any questions you have.

Next, you’ll visit Stornoway, the largest city in the Hebrides and the cradle of Gaelic culture. The town’s thriving local food scene, featuring the famous Stornoway black pudding, provides a unique culinary experience. Nearby highlights include the Callanish Standing Stones and picturesque beaches like Luskentyre and Traigh Mhor. The town’s historical charm, cultural vibrancy, and natural beauty make it a captivating tourist destination.
Your journey then takes you to the Orkney archipelago and its windswept moorland landscape. Le Laperouse will sail towards Kirkwall, the capital of the Orkney Islands, where numerous seabirds, such as gannets and European shags, have taken up residence. Kirkwall, which means “church bay,” is home to the magnificent St. Magnus Cathedral and serves as a gateway to the islands’ Neolithic sites, including the UNESCO World Heritage Sites of Skara Brae, Maeshowe, and the Ring of Brodgar, which provide fascinating insights into ancient human settlements.
You will then sail towards Lerwick in the Shetland Islands. This small and charming capital offers travellers a warm port atmosphere with its seafront of old houses and narrow streets. Geopark Shetland, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is located to the north, where incredibly well-preserved archaeological sites and ruins prove the islands’ occupation dates to the first Neolithic colonies.
The cruise ends in Edinburgh after a day at sea, but your Scottish adventure is far from over as you travel to the Scottish Highlands. Experience true Scottish hospitality as Lord Bruce – a direct descendant of King Robert the Bruce – welcomes you and your fellow Amaco participants to his ancestral home. Dating back almost 300 years, you’ll be made to feel at home in one of Scotland’s grandest houses, with access to the family’s private collection of photographs, prints and drawings, architectural plans, letters and journals, ceramics and textiles, and arms and armour.
You’ll also visit Lindores Abbey Distillery to learn about the whisky-making process and enjoy a private tasting class. While in the Highlands, you can also try your hand at clay target shooting. The activity is perfect for beginners and advanced shooters, offering different target scenarios that replicate real-life hunting situations, including incoming ducks, walked-up pheasants, and bolting rabbits.
We’ve also arranged a 4×4 off-road Highland Safari journey through the dramatic Scottish countryside – a land sculptured by the elements and steeped in history, culture, nature, and breathtaking views. You may be lucky to see the Majestic Red Deer, the Famous Grouse, the elusive Mountain Hare, or the soaring Golden Eagle as you travel through forests, mountains, and moors on private hill tracks.
The itinerary then returns to Edinburgh, where the dichotomy unfolds as we traverse from the ancient labyrinth of Old Town, adorned with bustling streets and architectural splendours, to the stately grandeur of New Town, a testament to Georgian elegance. Highlights include iconic landmarks like Edinburgh Castle, the Royal Mile, and Holyrood Palace.
An unforgettable farewell will be held on the Royal Yacht Britannia. The former royal residence of Queen Elizabeth II is ours exclusively for the evening, providing a truly unique way to end your Splendid Scottish itinerary. Enjoy behind-the-ropes access throughout the vessel and gain insight into the history and legacy of this former royal yacht.
With all-inclusive amenities and surprises woven into every moment, this itinerary promises unparalleled value and enchantment.

The pure waters of Loch Linnhe are teeming with marine life; harbour seals may be found among its faithful inhabitants.
Around midday the ship will dock at the port town of Fort William – sometimes described as the “Outdoor Capital of the UK.” Sitting at the base of Ben Nevis, the highest peak in the British Isles, and in close proximity to the dramatic landscape of Glencoe, it is a popular destination for hikers and rock climbers. Discover Lewis, the largest island of the Hebrides, is considered the cradle of Gaelic culture. Here, the peat- and heather-covered valleys and lochs stretch to infinity, and numerous bird colonies have taken up residence in the long, jagged coastlines. Not far from Stornoway, the island’s main town, built by the Vikings in the 9th century, stands one of Scotland’s most prominent prehistoric sites: The Standing Stones of Callanish. Dating back to more than 3,000 years B.C., these imposing stones placed in a cruciform pattern were laid out according to the moon and stars and their main purpose was to keep track of seasonal cycles, as this was essential for farmers at the time.

Capital of the Orkney archipelago, Kirkwall, which means “church bay”, is an ideal stopover before continuing on to the Northern Isles. Sheltered in a wide bay, the lively town welcomes the visitor with its charming paved alleyways edged by old houses and craft shops. Tankerness House, the oldest homestead in the town, is a must-see landmark. But the true architectural treasure of the aptly named Kirkwall is none other than its remarkable red and gold stone cathedral. And because whisky is inseparable from Scotland’s identity, stop at the Highland Park Distillery for a highly instructive visit.

Amaco is not only a member of ATIA (the Australian Travel Industry Association) and CATO (Council of Australian Tour Operators) but we are also ATAS Travel Accredited. This means we have met strict industry financial, operational, and management standards and criteria. Only the best industry agents achieve this accreditation, meaning you can travel with us knowing that you’re in safe and capable hands.
With almost 30 years of experience in planning and running conferences, we understand that participants may want to add additional travel destinations and adventures before or after the all-inclusive packages we provide.
Other conference operators might discourage you from doing this. Sometimes, it’s because of the added complexity it creates and at other times they’ll try to talk you out of it simply because they don’t have capable or experienced staff with the breadth and depth of the advisors we employ.
We encourage all participants to make the most of the time away. This might mean departing earlier than the rest of the group and visiting other destinations before meeting up with the main group at the conference or staying on at the conclusion and doing some additional travel.
Our travel advisors are perfectly positioned to assist you with making these arrangements and will do all the hard work for you – seamlessly combining your personalised itinerary with the group program.
Yes… not a problem. We understand that people may have a preferred Travel Agency they want to use and we don’t have any issues with you doing so. We’ll advise you of suggested arrival and departure times to allow you to make use of our group transfers.
Keep in mind though… we do have experienced travel advisors who are ready and waiting to help… even if that means just giving you a comparison price – nothing wrong with some competition.
If you do book your own flights, we will ask for a copy of your full itinerary so that we can double-check it to ensure that it fits with our program and group itinerary.
One word of warning, however, when booking flights independently – as the non-ticketing Agency we’re not notified of any time changes or cancellations to your booking. If anything changes with your booking both before and during the journey, it will be up to your agent to contact you and to make any changes needed.
It is also worth pointing out that even though we’ll have experienced staff members escorting the group during the conference, as the non-ticketing Agent we are not allowed to make contact or deal with the airline or other suppliers on your behalf.
We used to include flights in our travel package but found that in many cases the fares were more expensive than the best available daily fares or were not applicable for people who were looking to extend before or after the main conference travel dates.
We also felt it was unfair on you, as a participant, to unknowingly pay a premium for a more flexible group fare when you are already committed to attending the conference.
By not including the airfare in the package, you are able to work with one of our experienced and knowledgeable Travel Advisors to arrange flights on any airline and from any destination depending on your preferences…. including the class of travel.
In short….. Yes!
You’re encouraged to talk to our experienced travel advisors to learn more about the options open to you either before or after the conference itineraries. We will gladly work with you to put together a personalised itinerary that can include as much or as little as you want.
We believe it is important for your own peace of mind to know that our advisors are all employed directly by Amaco Small Group Tours and are located in our office in Notting Hill.
We don’t subcontract out the travel to a third party which means you can be comfortable knowing that whatever arrangements you make through Amaco will be tied together with the conference program to make one continuous, seamless travel itinerary. We’ll put as much care and effort into your extension as we put into the planning of the conference.
Whether it is simply booking some airport transfers with a couple of nights accommodation through to more elaborate arrangements we are perfectly positioned to incorporate any individual travel plans into your overall conference itinerary.
Email or call us so we can put together your perfect itinerary.
Much has been said about the value of travel insurance – especially given the broad-based exclusion policies many underwriters had in place which protected them from claims resulting from pandemics and epidemics.
A lot has changed in the past 12 – 18 months and many of the reputable travel insurance policies available in the market now not only include the usual cover for luggage and emergency medical expenses but also include coverage for COVID.
All members of the Amaco team are trained and authorised to provide information to clients regarding travel insurance. We routinely attend product updates on the various policy options and inclusions and stand ready to assist you in finding the right policy for you.
Please call our office and we will gladly explain the various different scenarios to you in greater depth.
