Tour Summary

Join us for Antarctica: The White Continent Conference in January 2026, departing nearly six years after our previous sold-out conferences to Antarctica in 2019 and 2020.

This is more than just a journey to the world’s coldest and driest continent; it’s an exclusive opportunity to experience one of the most captivating destinations on Earth while advancing your medical knowledge.

Antarctica is a place unlike any other. It offers breathtaking backdrops of glacial mountains, radiant skies, and wildlife you won’t find anywhere else. Explorers have been drawn to the icy continent for centuries, and now it’s your turn.

Imagine witnessing the untouched beauty of Antarctica firsthand on a luxury expedition cruise designed to provide both adventure and relaxation. Few experiences can compare to the wonder you’ll feel as you join fellow health professionals on this incredible voyage.

Your adventure begins in Buenos Aires, a vibrant and historic city. For two nights, you’ll stay at the iconic Alvear Palace Hotel. Since opening its doors in 1932, the hotel has been recognized as one of the city’s most prestigious accommodations, known for its luxury and elegance.

During your stay, you’ll enjoy formal conference sessions, a City Highlights Tour, and an unforgettable Tango Cabaret Show, immersing you in the rich culture of Argentina’s capital. This will also be where you meet other participants, presenters, and the Amaco team, who will be your hosts throughout the trip.

From Buenos Aires, a flight—already included in the package—will take you to Ushuaia, the southernmost city in the world, located on the edge of the Tierra del Fuego archipelago. This remote outpost, nicknamed the “End of the World,” is the starting point for most Antarctic expeditions, including yours.

After a short stay in the area, you’ll board the luxurious Seabourn Venture for a 10-night expedition cruise. This state-of-the-art expedition ship offers an intimate atmosphere with only 132 ocean-front suites, all featuring private verandas. Onboard, you’ll find every detail designed to maximize comfort, with refined interiors, modern amenities, and warm, contemporary decor.

Upon boarding, you’ll be fitted for your expedition boots and receive a custom Seabourn jacket—a gift to keep as a memento of your Antarctic adventure. We’ll host several conference sessions as we sail across the Drake Passage, one of the world’s most iconic sea routes. The learning will continue throughout the cruise, seamlessly integrating with the extraordinary destinations and daily shore excursions.

Our first landing will be Neko Harbour, renowned for its stunning scenery, where jagged mountains and towering icebergs form a unique and otherworldly landscape. Wildlife abounds, and you’ll encounter seabirds, seals, and whales as you explore. Next, we sail to Paradise Bay, where immense glaciers plunge into the icy waters and humpback whales glide gracefully beneath the surface. If conditions are favourable, you’ll witness these magnificent creatures in their natural habitat.

We’ll wake the following morning at Pleneau Island, a refuge for gentoo penguins and seals, where surreal ice formations rise from the water like sculptures, glowing in shades of blue and white. At Port Charcot, you’ll have the chance to walk through snow-covered paths to the remnants of an early explorer’s stone cabin, taking in sweeping views of icebergs scattered across the bay like tombstones in an eerily beautiful setting.

Our next stop is Port Lockroy, a historical site that has served as a base for whaling ships, a British military outpost, and a research station. Today, it’s one of Antarctica’s most visited locations, known for its small museum and gift shop. Here, you can even send a postcard from the southernmost post office in the world—an unforgettable way to stay connected to loved ones back home.

Just north of the Antarctic Peninsula lies Deception Island, a caldera created by a volcanic eruption 10,000 years ago. Its horseshoe shape and natural harbour make it one of the most striking sights on our itinerary, and the remnants of its whaling history add a layer of mystery to the island.

Our final day in Antarctica will take us to the Weddell Sea, an ethereal realm of massive table icebergs and sweeping ice platforms home to seals, penguins, and seabirds. This pristine environment, where nature’s stillness reigns, offers a peaceful end to our Antarctic adventure before we sail back across the Drake Passage and return to Ushuaia.

As we conclude our expedition in Ushuaia, you’ll fly back to Buenos Aires with memories of a journey few have the privilege of experiencing.

The Seabourn Venture, launched in 2022, is designed for polar expeditions while maintaining Seabourn’s signature luxury. Onboard, you’ll enjoy gourmet dining, spacious lounges, a wellness centre, and the Observation Lounge, where panoramic windows provide a front-row seat to the breathtaking landscapes. Every aspect of the ship caters to travellers seeking both comfort and discovery in the most remote parts of the world.

The Antarctica: The White Continent Conference seamlessly blends accredited medical education with awe-inspiring exploration. Our presenters will deliver insightful sessions that align with your professional development. At the same time, the ship’s expert naturalists will guide daily excursions to ensure you don’t miss a single moment of this extraordinary voyage. And with everything included—from accommodation to flights, meals, and premium beverages—this is not only an enriching experience but an exceptional value-for-money offer.

Those looking for a more in-depth Argentinian experience should consider our Pre-Cruise Buenos Aires Extension, which adds five jam-packed days in and around the Argentine capital. During this time, you’ll explore the northern parts of Buenos Aires, head to the countryside to see gauchos and local folk singers and explore the Tigre River Delta in a privately chartered boat. We’ve also lined up some world-class restaurants and a cooking class with one of the country’s celebrity chefs.

With only 40 places available, this is your opportunity to combine cutting-edge medical learning with a once-in-a-lifetime journey to one of Earth’s most beautiful and remote places.

Pre-Cruise Buenos Aires Extension

Antarctica - The White Continent

Day 1 - 2 January 2026Welcome to Bueno Aires

On arrival at Buenos Aires Airport, you will be met by Amaco staff or our local representative and transferred to our group hotel – the beautiful Alvear Palace Hotel.

Following check-in at the hotel, you are free to relax in your room or begin enjoying the area surrounding the hotel.

In the evening, you will enjoy a Welcome Dinner. This is a great opportunity to meet fellow participants, renew old friendships, and start new ones.

Overnight: Alvear Palace Hotel

Included Meals: Welcome Dinner

Day 2 - 3 January 2026Buenos Aires

The day begins with a stroll to Recoleta Cemetery, famous for its stunning architecture and historical significance, and as the final resting place of many prominent Argentine figures, including Eva Perón (Evita). Next, transfer to the MALBA Museum for Latin American Art before heading to Plaza de Mayo for a walking tour, with visits to the Cathedral and Government House.

Lunch follows in Puerto Madero. Originally developed as an industrial port area in the late 19th century, it fell into disuse for decades until a massive revitalization project in the 1990s transformed it into a sleek, vibrant district. Today, it is home to luxury apartments, high-end restaurants, hotels, and contemporary architecture. The iconic Women’s Bridge, designed by architect Santiago Calatrava, is a striking symbol of the area and represents the neighbourhood’s renewal.

On the way back to the hotel, we’ll visit the Colón Opera House, one of the world’s most renowned opera houses. Initially inaugurated in 1908, the theatre took nearly two decades to complete and reflects a mix of Italian Renaissance, French Baroque, and Classical Greek styles. The building’s interior is lavishly designed, with a majestic central chandelier, elegant marble staircases, and intricate gold-leaf details that create a stunning ambience.

The final stop today is Ateneo Grand Splendid Bookstore, often hailed as one of the most beautiful bookstores in the world.

Overnight: Alvear Palace Hotel

Included Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

Day 3 - 4 January 2026Buenos Aires - Estancia El Rosario & Antonio de Areco

Leave the hustle and bustle of Buenos Aires behind as you visit one of the oldest ranches in the
country and experience some traditional pastimes. Expect to see gauchos (local cowboys) showing off
their skills, a folk dance show, and simultaneously receive some genuine Argentine hospitality. There may be an opportunity to swim today if the weather is warm so pack swimwear if you’re keen.

We’ve also included a visit to the Antonio de Areco Gaucho Museum. It’s a unique museum dedicated to the life and culture of the gauchos. Located in the picturesque town of San Antonio de Areco, about 115 kilometres from Buenos Aires, the museum was established in honour of Ricardo Güiraldes, a famous Argentine writer whose novel Don Segundo Sombra vividly captures the life and spirit of the gauchos.

Overnight: Alvear Palace Hotel

Included Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 4 - 5 January 2026Tigre River & Delta Tour

Today’s tour of the Tigre River Delta offers a unique, scenic escape from Buenos Aires, immersing you in a lush network of rivers, canals, and islands. Located about an hour from the city, Tigre is known for its tranquil waterways and rich wildlife, making it an ideal spot for a relaxing, nature-filled experience. On arrival in Tigre, you’ll board our privately charted boat for a scenic cruise through the delta.

As the boat glides along winding canals, you’ll be treated to picturesque views of charming riverside homes on stilts, dense forests, and floating markets, where local vendors sell crafts and fresh produce. The delta’s natural beauty is complemented by its vibrant birdlife, making it a favourite spot for birdwatching enthusiasts.

The tour includes a delicious lunch and plenty of opportunities to relax.

Overnight: Alvear Palace Hotel

Included Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 5 - 6 January 2026Buenos Aires

Today, you’ll discover Argentina through its flavours with a hands-on lesson from Paula Comparatore, a well-known chef and restaurant owner. Working with the finest local ingredients, you’ll be taught to make several local dishes and enjoy wines from several emerging wineries.

Return to the hotel after lunch with some time at leisure.

Day 2 - 7 January 2026Buenos Aires

Conference Sessions 1 & 2 will occur at the hotel this morning, followed by lunch.

Following lunch, you’ll depart on a Buenos Aires Highlights Tour, which includes a visit to San Telmo, La Boca, Caminito and more.

San Telmo is one of the oldest and most traditional neighbourhoods of Buenos Aires. It is part of the Historic Quarter of the city and preserves a large part of its architectural heritage. Its cobblestone streets, low houses and patios with cisterns suggest a stamp stopped in time. It is also noted for its bars, restaurants, tango bars and, especially, for the wide variety of antiques in different areas. Plaza Dorrego, the oldest in Buenos Aires after the historic Plaza de Mayo, is in the heart of San Telmo. On Sundays, this space is the scene of the most important outdoor antique fair in the city.

La Boca is a colourful, picturesque, and lively neighbourhood that shows its visitors its friendliest side, offering them their own snapshots of postcard images. The main attraction of La Boca is the picturesque pedestrian street Caminito. Among the colourful and curious buildings of Caminito are numerous restaurants, terraces, and painters’ stalls, as well as tango dancers who make everyone fall in love with the magic of their steps.

Enjoy an evening of unforgettable tango as you witness a range of performances by some of the country’s leading dancers and singers while enjoying a delicious dinner.

Overnight: Alvear Palace Hotel

Included Meals: Breakfast and Dinner

Day 3 - 8 January 2026Buenos Aires to Ushuaia & Cruise Embarkation

Transfer from the hotel to the airport for the charter flight to Ushuaia – the southernmost tip of South America. Located on a small archipelago, this small town has been nicknamed the “End of the World”.

Embarkation begins at mid-afternoon. Once on board, you will be fitted for your rental boots. You will
also receive your expedition jacket — a gift to keep during and after the cruise. Once boarding formalities are complete, you’re welcome to explore the vessel before the mandatory lifeboat and evacuation drills take place.

A Captain’s Welcome Reception will take place before dinner.

Dinner on board.

Overnight: Seabourne Venture

Included Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 4 - 9 January 2026Drake Passage

Conference Session 3

The most direct cruise route from Ushuaia to Antarctica is across Drake Passage. This stretch of sea is often dreaded by tourists, researchers, and hardened seafarers alike, yet there is something quite exhilarating about experiencing the rolling swell that is so common in these parts. Depending on who you talk to, the conditions are often not nearly as bad as people make them out to be.

The onboard naturalist team will give several lectures and talks throughout our itinerary. As with most expedition-style cruises, the timing of these is often determined by the weather conditions.

We’ve worked closely with Seabourn to ensure that these lectures will not clash with our formal conference sessions and that Amaco participants can attend both. The most important thing is for you to remain flexible and work with the time and conditions we face. Read the daily updates and listen to any Amaco-specific announcements during the cruise.

Overnight: Seabourne Venture

Included Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 5 - 10 January 2026Drake Passage

Conference Session 4

Our journey across Drake Passage continues today.

Conditions permitting, we will include some conference sessions as we approach Antarctica. While not in session or attending the naturalist’s talks, you should watch for some of the diverse marine fauna typical to this region.

Also — don’t forget to look to the sky to glimpse elegant albatross or Cape petrels playfully floating about in the wind around our ship. You can expect the waters to calm when we reach the sub-Antarctic islands and the Antarctic Peninsula.

Overnight: Seabourne Venture

Included Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 6 - 11 January 2026Neko Harbour & Paradise Bay

A little corner of paradise in the shadow of a glacier, Neko Harbour is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful sites on the Antarctic Peninsula. Mountains, ice, and wildlife combine to form a truly unique landscape.

Animals are as abundant as they are exotic. You’ll encounter seabirds (gulls, Cape petrels, cormorants) and marine mammals (seals, orcas and other whale species). Following the zodiac excursion, we’ll reposition to Paradise Bay, which has spectacular landscapes composed of towering glacial peaks plunging into the icy waters of the Antarctic. With some luck, you’ll witness an unforgettable underwater dance between passing humpback whales.

Overnight: Seabourn Venture

Included Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 7 - 12 January 2026Pleneau Island & Port Charcot

Wake the following day at Pleneau Island, a refuge for gentoo penguins, elephant and fur seals. A ‘fleet’ of imposing ice formations sit like anchored ships along its shores. Like works of art, these unusually sculpted icebergs range in colour from white to blue and every shade in between.

Its then onto Port Charcot, located in Salpêtrière Bay. A guided walk through the snow will have you at the remains of a stone cabin where early explorers conducted studies on magnetism. From the nearby summit, you can enjoy unobstructed views of the vast field of icebergs scattered over the bay like white
tombstones — an eerie, mystical site like no other.

Overnight: Seabourn Venture

Included Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 8 - 13 January 2026Port Lockroy

Our first stop today is Port Lockroy, which served over the years as a stopover for whaling ships, a British military base and later a research station. The port is currently one of the most visited sites in the Antarctic thanks mainly to its tiny museum which allows visitors to experience the base as it was in the 1950s.

Make sure to purchase a souvenir from the gift shop, and while in port, don’t miss your chance to send your loved ones a postcard from the southernmost post office in the world!

Overnight: Seabourn Venture

Included Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 9 - 14 January 2026Deception Island

Situated just above the northern tip of the Antarctic Peninsula, our next stop — Deception Island — is easily recognisable thanks to its distinctive horseshoe shape. The crater of this former volcano caved 10,000 years ago, and the resulting caldera was flooded, creating a natural harbour. Deception Island still bears traces of its past as a long-time hub of the whaling industry, with abandoned sheds lining the black sand of its volcanic beaches.

The area is home to the Antarctic Peninsula’s largest colony of chinstrap penguins, as well as numerous elephant seals and fur seals.

Overnight: Seabourne Venture

Included Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 10 - 15 January 2026Weddell Sea

Your journey today will involve winding your way through a veritable labyrinth of majestic table icebergs that form the Weddell Sea. Sweeping ice platforms sculpt a landscape unlike any other, populated by fur seals, penguins, wandering albatrosses, and other imposing seabirds.

The king of this realm is, without doubt, the Weddell Seal. You’ll recognise him by his dark grey coat
and spotted belly and a haunting cry that pierces the surrounding silence.

Overnight: Seabourn Venture

Included Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 11 - 16 January 2026Drake Passage

Conference Session 5

Weather permitting, you can expect part of today to be spent at the conference. That said, you’ll still have plenty of time to use the facilities onboard Seabourn Venture, including the spa, massage cabins or fitness centre. You can also expect some summative talks from the on-board naturalists.

Overnight: Seabourn Venture

Included Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 12 - 17 January 2026Drake Passage

Conference Session 6

Savour the last day of your Antarctica cruise as you finish crossing the Drake Passage. With a full day at sea, we’ll aim to complete any of the remaining conference sessions.

Overnight: Seabourn Venture

Included Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 13 - 18 January 2026Ushuaia to Buenos Aires

Your Antarctic cruise ends when you disembark the ship this morning in Ushuaia. You’ll transfer to the airport for the domestic flight back to Buenos Aires.

The Antarctica – The White Continent PAckage ends at Buenos Aires Airport.

Included Meals: Breakfast

Accommodation - Buenos Aires
Accommodation - Seabourn Venture
Travel Options & Extensions

Amaco is not only a member of ATIA (the Australian Travel Industry Association) and CATO (Council of Australian Tour Operators) but we are also ATAS Travel Accredited. This means we have met strict industry financial, operational, and management standards and criteria. Only the best industry agents achieve this accreditation, meaning you can travel with us knowing that you’re in safe and capable hands.

With almost 30 years of experience in planning and running conferences, we understand that participants may want to add additional travel destinations and adventures before or after the all-inclusive packages we provide.

Other conference operators might discourage you from doing this. Sometimes, it’s because of the added complexity it creates and at other times they’ll try to talk you out of it simply because they don’t have capable or experienced staff with the breadth and depth of the advisors we employ.

We encourage all participants to make the most of the time away. This might mean departing earlier than the rest of the group and visiting other destinations before meeting up with the main group at the conference or staying on at the conclusion and doing some additional travel.

Our travel advisors are perfectly positioned to assist you with making these arrangements and will do all the hard work for you – seamlessly combining your personalised itinerary with the group program.

CAN I BOOK MY OWN FLIGHTS?

Yes… not a problem. We understand that people may have a preferred Travel Agency they want to use and we don’t have any issues with you doing so. We’ll advise you of suggested arrival and departure times to allow you to make use of our group transfers.

Keep in mind though… we do have experienced travel advisors who are ready and waiting to help… even if that means just giving you a comparison price – nothing wrong with some competition.

If you do book your own flights, we will ask for a copy of your full itinerary so that we can double-check it to ensure that it fits with our program and group itinerary.

One word of warning, however, when booking flights independently – as the non-ticketing Agency we’re not notified of any time changes or cancellations to your booking. If anything changes with your booking both before and during the journey, it will be up to your agent to contact you and to make any changes needed.

It is also worth pointing out that even though we’ll have experienced staff members escorting the group during the conference, as the non-ticketing Agent we are not allowed to make contact or deal with the airline or other suppliers on your behalf.

CAN I CHOOSE MY OWN CLASS OF TRAVEL?

We used to include flights in our travel package but found that in many cases the fares were more expensive than the best available daily fares or were not applicable for people who were looking to extend before or after the main conference travel dates.

We also felt it was unfair on you, as a participant, to unknowingly pay a premium for a more flexible group fare when you are already committed to attending the conference.

By not including the airfare in the package, you are able to work with one of our experienced and knowledgeable Travel Advisors to arrange flights on any airline and from any destination depending on your preferences…. including the class of travel.

CAN I VISIT OTHER PLACES BEFORE OR AFTER THE CONFERENCE?

In short….. Yes!

You’re encouraged to talk to our experienced travel advisors to learn more about the options open to you either before or after the conference itineraries. We will gladly work with you to put together a personalised itinerary that can include as much or as little as you want.

We believe it is important for your own peace of mind to know that our advisors are all employed directly by Amaco Small Group Tours and are located in our office in Notting Hill.

We don’t subcontract out the travel to a third party which means you can be comfortable knowing that whatever arrangements you make through Amaco will be tied together with the conference program to make one continuous, seamless travel itinerary. We’ll put as much care and effort into your extension as we put into the planning of the conference.

Whether it is simply booking some airport transfers with a couple of nights accommodation through to more elaborate arrangements we are perfectly positioned to incorporate any individual travel plans into your overall conference itinerary.

Email or call us so we can put together your perfect itinerary.

TRAVEL INSURANCE - IS IT REALLY NECESSARY?

Much has been said about the value of travel insurance – especially given the broad-based exclusion policies many underwriters had in place which protected them from claims resulting from pandemics and epidemics.

A lot has changed in the past 12 – 18 months and many of the reputable travel insurance policies available in the market now not only include the usual cover for luggage and emergency medical expenses but also include coverage for COVID.

All members of the Amaco team are trained and authorised to provide information to clients regarding travel insurance. We routinely attend product updates on the various policy options and inclusions and stand ready to assist you in finding the right policy for you.

Please call our office and we will gladly explain the various different scenarios to you in greater depth.

Education

Amaco is an Accredited Education Provider for the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) and the Australian College of Rural & Remote Medicine. Over the years members of our tea have also worked closely with the Pharmacy Guild of Australia, the Australian Medical Association, the Pharmaceutical Society of Australia and various dental and specialist associations and colleges.

Each conference we run includes an education syllabus that assists GP’s, pharmacists and health professionals to improve the quality of care they provide to patients and customers while at the same time providing them the opportunity to travel to and experience new and exciting destinations.

Our conference will allow delegates to earn CPD hours/points based on the content and time spent in sessions. As has been the case with past conferences, we will work closely with participants affiliated with other associations to ensure they receive maximum recognition for attending the conference.

The content of the education sessions will be relevant to GPs, Medical Specialists, Pharmacists, Dentists, Nurses, and other health providers. We encourage all attendees to register for the conference sessions.

The Education Committee for Antarctica – The White Continent Conference will be selected in early 2025, with final conference topics to be chosen based on the feedback from our previous conference attendees and with input from the RACGP, ACRRM, and medical journals. Suitable speakers will be approached based on the topics selected.

Subject to final accreditation, Antarctica – The White Continent Conference will have between 14 – 16 hours of accredited education.

ACRRM members can also expect the education program to be accredited and to earn CPD points. RACGP and ACRRM accreditation will be applied for under the triennium 2025 to 2027.

As has been the case in the past, Amaco will work with pharmacy bodies and those affiliated with other associations to ensure they receive maximum recognition for attending the conference.

We welcome applications from potential presenters and encourage anyone interested to contact us for further information.
