The Sumaq Hotel is located next to the Vilacanota River at the foot of Machu Picchu Mountain, on route to the citadel itself.
Just a 10-minute walk from the train station, the hotel is far enough out of town to feel apart from the hustle and bustle, but it’s only a short walk to the town’s amenities when you need them.
Valley views, stylish interiors, and exquisite local dishes make this not just one of the finest hotels in Aguas Calientes.
In keeping with the rest of the hotel, the guest rooms combine dark woods with mostly claret fabric furnishings and robust blocks of sandy marble. The televisions are huge, the contents of the minibar are complimentary, and the coffee machine is modern and easy to operate. There’s also a selection of fresh teas. The bathrooms are forged of solid marble slabs and vast mirrors, with a separate toilet room, shower, and bathtub.
The hotel’s modern facilities include a Spa, with a jacuzzi and steam room, in addition to a boutique and café bar. The hotel also has a first-floor terrace where afternoon tea is served.
Breakfast is a buffet of pastries, fresh fruits, cured meats, cereals, and eggs are cooked to order.
The main feature of the Sumaq, it has to be said, however, is its fantastic restaurant, which serves up a delicious blend of Peruvian and fusion cuisine
