Register your interest early for our Small Group Tour and Conference to expedition to one of the world’s most remote and extraordinary frontiers — Spitsbergen in the High Arctic.
Located within the Norwegian archipelago of Svalbard, Spitsbergen stands as a remarkable example of human life at the edge of the inhabitable world. Marking the boundary between the Greenland Sea and the Arctic Ocean, it is one of the last European lands before the Far North. Here, dramatic glaciers, sculpted icebergs and deep fjords define a landscape of striking contrasts and untamed beauty.
Your Arctic adventure begins in Longyearbyen, one of the northernmost inhabited settlements on Earth. This resilient town endures 113 days of polar night each winter, yet in August, it welcomes travellers under extended daylight and crisp Arctic air. You will also visit Ny-Ålesund, one of the closest communities to the North Pole, rich in polar exploration history and scientific research.
Few travellers venture into the Arctic without hoping to encounter its most iconic resident — the polar bear. Dominating the frozen wilderness with quiet authority, these magnificent creatures roam the ice in search of seals. Whether it is a solitary male crossing the tundra or a mother guiding her cubs across the pack ice, witnessing a polar bear in its natural habitat is an unforgettable and humbling experience.
At 79° North, Magdalena Bay reveals one of Spitsbergen’s hidden treasures. Rugged peaks — the “pointed mountains” that inspired the island’s name — rise dramatically above sweeping glaciers and pristine waters. Mist drifts along steep cliffs as whales surface in the fjords and walruses rest along the shoreline. Arctic foxes, seabird colonies, seals and reindeer complete this remarkable ecosystem at the edge of the world.
You’ll sail through Kongsfjorden, also known as King’s Fjord, named after the three striking mountain peaks — the “crowns” — representing tDenmark, Sweden, and Norway. Here, tranquil waters are scattered with drifting icebergs from nearby glaciers. Bearded seals, barnacle geese, Brünnich’s guillemots and Svalbard reindeer are often sighted against this serene Arctic backdrop.
Witness one of Spitsbergen’s most renowned glaciers, named after Prince Albert I of Monaco, whose late 19th-century expeditions helped shape polar exploration. Towering cliffs of luminous blue ice rise from the sea, cracking and shifting in a powerful display of nature’s raw force. As your ship carefully navigates among icebergs rising up to 60 metres high, you will feel both awe and humility in this vast polar wilderness.
Join expert naturalist guides on Zodiac excursions that bring you closer to shimmering glacier fronts and floating ice sculptures, their brilliant shades of blue reflecting across the pristine waters. The soundscape of creaking pressure ridges and calving ice creates an atmosphere that is both dramatic and profoundly peaceful.
This is more than a journey — it is a true Arctic expedition. A rare opportunity to explore glaciers, encounter extraordinary wildlife and experience one of the planet’s last great wildernesses.
